Kitchen remodel-week 6-Wednesday

After a few days off for one reason or another we are back on track! The painter was here yesterday painting the window sills, wood trim, and some of the butler's pantry.

At 8 this morning the carpenter arrived with the doors and drawers.

He already has the doors on the island

Working on the upper cabinet doors.
another view

The laundry room, not painted yet. The
painters arrived about an hour after the carpenter. they finished some things out of his way.

Now that all the doors were up they have been taking them off to spray them, sand them, then spray them again with the urethane. It seemed backwards, but then thinking about it a little more, it made sense. This way they were positioned properly
Drawers are finished

Doors are back up!

Now they' re getting ready to paint the doors for the island.
Rest of the painting will be finished tomorrow. The granite arrives
on Friday.  Next Monday they will be starting backsplash,  floor and
also getting the small front porch done.

Design Wall-Monday February 10, 2014

I finished the string blocks I needed to get done and in the mail.

On Saturday I was going through bags of stuff that had been sitting and waiting to be put away. Yes, quilty things.  Earlier I had found a packet of 2 1/2 inch strips I had bought at one time. Then I found this pattern in one of the bags. Decided I needed a no brainer but something fun to work on.
one block

All 35 blocks. Still need to sew the background sashing between the blocks
The pattern is Off Track
This is not the final lay out but wanted to get them up on the wall.

Stash Report-week 6, 2014

Not much sewing time this past week, but did manage to use a little and I stayed out of the quilt stores.  That was a plus so still ahead for the year!

Used this week:       .75
Used to date:         15.25
Added this week:      0
Added to date:         8.5
Net:                         6.75
It is going to be a busy week with the kitchen remodel, probably not a lot of sewing will be happening, but then you never know. I did cut out and start a new quilt top today. If things go as planned there will be kitchen remodel updates with pictures of doors, drawers, granite and maybe the beginning of the back splash. It is starting to all come together!

Back to Judy!

Kitchen remodel-week 5, Thursday

WEehad the painters here today. They sanded the window sills, did lots of caulking and a little more priming. He also took off the old drop cloths and old plastic sheeting and put down new. They plan in being back tomorrow and probably will  here all weekend. The granite contractor was also here checking measurements. He has the dimensions already for the sink, stove top in the kitchen and the sink in the laundry room. So he is good there. We are putting in a vessel sink in the half bath-it sits on top on the granite top.Going with the waterfall edge on the magma gold granite and the minsk granite. Kitchen island, butlers pantry and 1/2 bath. The solid black granite will have the straight edge .
Not sure when people will start arriving in the morning. We are supposed to have more icy
conditions on the roadways around rush hour.  They will get here when they can. Our cabinet doors and drawers are also supposed to be delivered and installed. Granite Monday or Tuesday, back splash etc after that. I think our appliances from factory builder are there. Plumbing and lighting fixtures should be in sometime late next week.Of course with the bad weather every where there could be a few delays. Not sure where everything is being shipped from.  It's all moving right along.

Week 5-Kitchen Remodel-Tuesday

Monday was a day off, but the painters were here again today painting walls, the base of the island, cabinets in the laundry room and also the walls in the 1/2 bath. The painters have been very careful. Furniture gets moved and covered again

You can see where they painted the edge of the wall along the ceiling.
That is Benjamin Moore Manchester Tan

In progress

They have plastic sheeting between the kitchen and the family room. Took this one and the next
through the windows and door!

The cabinets once again in cased in plastic sheeting
Finished for the day

Hard to get a picture of the walls in the 1/2 bath at night.
No lights at the moment except for the bright one they had for painting.
The walls are B.Moore Sandy Hook Grey.

According to the painter I think someone will be here tomorrow measuring for the granite.
Not sure what else will be happening! There is a little more painting needing to be done.
We also went to Georgetown today to Diva looking at window treatments,

Design Wall-Monday February 3, 2014

I joined a string block swap on another group (quilted with Love).  Need to get cracking on those if I'm going to get them sent in on time! Since some mindless sewing was more to my liking today, I dug out the muslin squares I had cut previously. That is what I am working on right now.
Some ready to be trimmed

These are trimmed
I finished this one this past week-this is Folklore using Acacia
by Tula Pink

The girls usually are upstairs with me when I sew. Tilly stays by the door or on the landing
close to the steps.  Tiki gets under the bed, out of the way, but leaves her hind end sticking out
so I know she is there. This is her spot!

Week 5-Sunday-Kitchen Remodel

We really weren't expecting anyone today, but as the girls and I were leaving to head to Walmart the painter arrived. He wanted to spray the ceilings and get them out of the way.  I think the fumes yesterday got to the guys who were here doing the cabinets. It was pretty strong for a while. We didn't blame them for not staying to spray the ceilings. Now our ceilings are a pretty flat white.  The painters won't be back now until the rest of the wood trim is on, the doors and drawers are here for the cabinets. Once that is done then they will be back to paint walls.

They did a great job of covering furniture. When he was painting the ceilings
the wood cabinets were encased in plastic sheeting. Not sure what tomorrow will bring!
