Another week has come and gone. It was  a hot one in our part of the world. The whole week was 100 or a little more. Think the highest was 105. Good week to stay indoors and sew. 2 weeks ago I was digging out my seasonal fabrics to see what  had for the dog scarves. It was a fun weekend of sorting and pressing fabrics that I had not seen for a while. A lot of my theme fabrics had been stored away when I decided it was time to start using all those batiks I had so carefully been preserving! That was right before Dad's condition worsened. And after he died we started traveling more in the Fall and Winter. Migration time for the birds, butterflies and dragonflies along the Texas coast. This year with Covid-19 we have been home and I have been sorting, tossing, and looking at patterns for some of my fabric library. Yes, the library is extensive! I am still adding to it but only as needed or in otherwards to go with something I want to use!           ...

What happened to January?

Image
Here is February 1, 2019! Not sure how that happened! A lot of January was spent dealing with Tilly who had pneumonia. Never knew they could get it, but have discovered it is fairly common in dogs.Weekly visits to the vet for x-rays and lots of pills. Fortunately she is not as bad as Tiki when it comes to pills, but she wasn't happy about them either! About the beginning of the 3rd week she wasn't coughing near as much and was slowly returning to being Tilly! By that point in time I felt like I could go upstairs and get back to sewing. I didn't before as I would have had to block off the steps to keep her downstairs. She likes to be with me and I didn't want her to overexert herself. I had these blocks made in December but had not put them into a top. Got that done and it is back from my quilter Kerry. I found a fat quarter pack of batiks and decided to use the pattern that came with it. The pattern has you make 18 blocks so there are 2 left over. However I...

New Year's Day plus 1!

Image
It has been a little while since I posted. Early December was my last entry! December was a busy month, getting ready for the holidays, trying to get some sewing in and then we took off between Christmas and New Years. We went to Rockport for a few days hunting the Whooping Cranes and other migratory birds. Galen left for 8 days 10-18. He and Greg Lasley took off for the Texas Panhandle, into Oklahoma for a few miles and covered a lot of territory in New Mexico searching for birds. Somewhere along the Texas/Oklahoma border is Galen's cell phone. First order of business when he got home. Get a new phone. A few pictures of the inside ready for Christmas. My Snowmen go on the fireplace mantel Our tree. Every year I say I need to make a new tree skirt. This one is probably 45 years old from  McCalls pattern Decided this year to put a piece I bought in Thailand on the dining room table. We rarely eat there anyway! My Santas go on the top of a cabinet in t...

Good bye November 2018

Image
As much as I have to admit it my parents were right-the older one gets the faster the time goes by or seems that way! Here we are the last month on 2018! Hard to believe! November was a busy month for us. We took off on several day trips looking for birds that were migrating through our part of Texas. And deer season started the first Saturday of the month. On the weekends Galen joined his friend in Brady I was able to stay here and sew. That is always a plus. We did have a trip planned for Rockport the week after Thanksgiving but Galen has a chance to go with another friend in early December birding in the Texas Panhandle region. We changed the dates of our trip and this past week has been spent decorating for the Christmas holidays! My sewing-finished all the blocks for the Irish Chain Stars. This is a picture of the first 5 rows on my design wall. Taken before anything was sewn together. there are 9 rows all in all. This was a block of the week posted by Debbie at Piecing the Pa...

October 2018 Wrap Up

Image
As usual the all good intention to keep the blog up to date has gone by the way side. Guess that is good, means we have been busy! The week we had all the rain in central Texas, Galen and I were at South Padre Island. The weather there was not great but better than here at home. Had hoped he would get out fishing with his friend there but they decided to save it for another time. However he did go to the birding center just about every day and was able to get some new lifers plus updated pictures for this year. In the mornings then again in the evenings when we were in the hotel I managed to get 4 quilts bound. They were the 4 made from the string blocks I found in a container.  Once we got home I had more quilts to bind. Managed to get 2 more done for Quilts of Compassion. Those were 2 my friend Joan sent me to add backing, get my friend to quilt and then I would bind them. She sent more than these 2 but they will go in the next shipment along with quilts from another...

September Wrap Up

Image
It has been a busy month putting blocks into quilts to be sent to Quilts of Compassion for their deployment to the Carolinas later this year. Got the quilts together that have been ready for just such a need. Those are off to the group now. About the middle of the month I found a 140 blocks from various swaps over the years-string blocks. They were 7.5 inches square.                          These have since been made into 4 quilts of 35 blocks each. As soon as I get these back from my wonderful quilted they will also be headed to Quilts of Compassion along with some from friends. Yes, am keeping Kerry @ tincanquilting.com busy! I am part of a small group of quilting friends that have become very close. One of our members does a lot for others and we decided it was time for her to have a quilt of her own. She only makes small ones and we wanted her to have one she could curl up in! One of the members found a f...

Nothing is on my wall at the moment! Yes, need to remedy that! I did manage to get several quilts bound and 2 tops completed! This is Arcadia. This is the back. The back is actually green but the sun was bright when we took the pictures! This was machine quilted by Kerry from TinCanQuilting.com                           This one is called Hashbrowns. It was a strip club from Honey Bee                                                          And another great quilting job b Kerry I had one left over block. Put it on the back. Can write a note on the light fabric. This one is the last of the nine patch straight furrow made from blocks from members of the Yahoo group Quilted With Love. Tiki was not going to be left out of the picture! ...
