Day Late-Design Wall Monday

The best laid plans don’t always happen!! A day late but then considering I haven’t posted since late May…….

Early in June my body said enough already, take a break, get some sleep. So that’s what I did. Sinuses and or allergies made sure I listened. At 78 I have found when the body says stop already it pays to listen!

I did get the Alice in Wonderland quilt bound. It is one the way to CA. Backed it with a cute cuddle piece of fabric.

I managed to start another quilt top. Was putting things away and decided instead of putting this one away I should start it. I had a Laurel Birch jelly roll plus my contrast fabric put aside for Donna Jordan’s Diamond Trip top. Diamond Trip is a free pattern on Jordan Fabrics website.

With July 4th rapidly approaching it was time to work on more doggie bandanas for both La Mia Bella dog salons. While I was cutting I did more everyday ones as well. Finished up 80 on Sunday. Various sizes-medium which our Lady wears, small plus a few extra small. These are the prints I used. Will work on more for everyday. Figuring out a system to getting these made.

We did get some much needed rain last week. Close to 2 inches for the week. Will take that over the flooding they had elsewhere.

Galen has been out a few times but not much. The last few times he has been down to little lake- no pictures. The Dragonflies are being uncooperative. And places they go for all day trips or over night they have had bad storms and flooding. Hoping things dry out a little so they can start getting out again.

Hard to say what I will work on this week. Will cut more bandanas so I have a stack near my machine. I need to start laying out the Diamond Trip top. All the half square triangles are sewn. play time is the next step-position rows on the design wall.

I need to figure out a menu for tomorrow, the 18th. Galen will be celebrating his 80th birthday. Think I will bake a pie for dessert. They don’t last as long as a cake and it will just be us.

  April 1 2025 And a month later I’m doing a blog post! March was a strange month.  The Weather was crazy- cold days, warm days. Days where you didn’t want to be out much. Smoke from the wildfires west of us,  not to mention the dust being driven to us by strong winds. And very little rain.  Our total so far for the first 3 months.  3.77 inches.  We got .6 while towns along the coast got 14 to 20 this past week. Galen wasn’t able to get out much but he did get a few pictures. He went down to our small lake one afternoon looking for Dragonflies.   While there an Eagle flew in fairly close.  He thought he had seen one a few weeks earlier but it was flying away so he wasn’t able to get any pictures.  This time he did. Eagle at Forest Creek Several times we had Cedar Waxwings in the yard feeding on our Yupon Holly bushes.   They really go after the berries. Design Wall Monday-June 15, 2015

A little to show this week. First off is a better picture of the Jelly Roll quilt. Still have not decided if I will border it or not. At this point I am thinking not. But then you never know! It doesn't have a name. It was designed by Sue who works at Honey Bee in Austin for one of their strip clubs. It's a combination of a 4 patch, 2", 4" up to 20" strips. While in the motel I also worked on quilt blocks using the MSQC Chevron u-tube video.  Here's 32 of them. Had to do a little frogging on several . there will be 40 total. Think I will make 2 small quilts-4 x 5 with a narrow border of white, then a 4 inch wide print border. One layout I am thinking of using from her video has some half blocks, so I'm not rushing to finish the last few until I get it all laid out. I used a layer cake I had on hand. It's a floral.   April 8th 2025 I think we are finally over having cold snaps at least according to Accuweather! This year though I wouldn’t count on it. A couple nights in the 30’s is a little unusual for us right outside Austin. I was able to do more sorting. That proved to be a good thing! Remember this block from last week? I found the pattern! The blocks are sewn into rows now. This is what I have done so far. Thinking of putting a corner stone in the horizontal sashing. Will get it finished this week. I found some fabric that I thought would be good for placemats. Have cut them but need to cut the fabric for the backs. Galen will be away Thursday to Saturday-East Texas trip to see what’s flying. I hope to sew a lot while he is away. Of course plans are always greater than my accomplishments. Too say the very least I have enough here to keep me busy! That about sums it us for us.
