 OFFICIALLY FALL

I took a few months off from my blog. Been keeping busy with day to day activities. Sorting and getting rid of things. Enjoying our back yard watching the birds. The hummingbirds are migrating through, stopping at our 2 feeders. We did have a very big bird at them the other day. A Baltimore Oriole.!

We have been going out more again to see what is flying. Dragonflies have been scarce in the usual places. Not sure the reasoning. Not as many birds either. We were able to find the Wood Storks near Thrall the other week. So they are back.

The corn has been pretty well picked, although we did see some being picked this past weekend. Cotton is also being picked.

On one of the back roads we passed by a field that we had no idea what was planted. Got my plant app and grabbed a picture or 2 for I.D. Galen also took some close ups. Plant App said Sim Sim. Had to google that when we got home. Sesame!!!! The 3rd picture is of the seed pods. Sometime in October they mature are picked and opened to find a lot of little sesame seeds! I never thought about growing them!!!! Galen figured the field must be about 100 acres.

I did meet up with Osie to give her 4 quilts to quilt for me. Have then back and am now sewing on the bindings. Nice busy work when it’s too hot upstairs to get much done. Don’t have the AC turned down up there. When I can I work on dog bandanas for the 2 grooming salons I give them too! Have a system set up now. Each container for the 3 sizes I make more of most of the time. Have squares cut to size so now I can grab a front and back, stack them and cut 4 at a time. Get a bunch cut and near my machine. Sew a few whenever I have time. These are a few of the ones done and given to the shops. Now I am working on some for Halloween and Fall.

I have a lot of waste triangles cut from these that I have been keeping in a container. Not sure how I will use them. I did sort them to sizes one afternoon. Now those are bagged. Have been making bandanas for about 3 years so there is quite an assortment- holidays, bright colors, children’s prints. Whatever I thought would make cute ones!

Will try and do better about keeping up with my blog.

  Design Wall Monday I hope everyone enjoying the Memorial Day holiday remembers why we celebrate this day.. Last week ended up being busier than planned. But I was able to work more on my blocks. This may end up being a table square or a table runner. Played a little bit the blocks. Not sewn together just playing with layout. I have more HSTs  made. And some others ready to be made into blocks. Didn’t get to meet up with Osie last week.  Hopefully we can get together later this week. And needo get busy on more doggie bandanas.   Day Late-Design Wall Monday The best laid plans don’t always happen!! A day late but then considering I haven’t posted since late May……. Early in June my body said enough already, take a break, get some sleep. So that’s what I did. Sinuses and or allergies made sure I listened. At 78 I have found when the body says stop already it pays to listen! I did get the Alice in Wonderland quilt bound. It is one the way to CA. Backed it with a cute cuddle piece of fabric. I managed to start another quilt top. Was putting things away and decided instead of putting this one away I should start it. I had a Laurel Birch jelly roll plus my contrast fabric put aside for Donna Jordan’s Diamond Trip top. Diamond Trip is a free pattern on Jordan Fabrics website. With July 4th rapidly approaching it was time to work on more doggie bandanas for both La Mia Bella dog salons. While I was cutting I did more everyday ones as well. Finished up 80 on Sunday. LAST MONDAY IN APRIL 2025 Another month just about over. The past few weeks have gone by quickly. The weather has been nice enough for Galen to get out to take pictures. They even got a 3 day trip in to SE Texas. We had a lot of rainy days in our forecast. Most of the storms however went around us. The ones west of us should have helped our lakes some. But here at our home we have only had 4 1/2 inches since the first of the year. That’s not good!!! Mexican Sunflower plants are sprouting from last year’s seeds as is the Butterfly Weed. The Bee Balm is also growing. We managed to keep some Lemon Grass through the winter as well. Our older Amaryllis bulbs are also doing well. This pot is from 2024 or 2023. Not sure which year. And we are getting a few tomatoes. Yes I bought a tomato plants that had buds on it! Too our surprise we also have 2 or 3 volunteer yellow pear tomatoes growing!
