A Very Chilly January 15th 2024!   poodlegirls     Daily Happenings ,  Donation Quilting ,  Life at home ,  Nature ,  Quilting ,  Uncategorized     January 15, 2024   2 Minutes All my good intentions of writing a post the.beginning of the year went for naught! Have been staying busy as well as limiting my time on the internet We had planned on spending a week at South Padre Island but canceled. We had things here that needed doing before this frigid weather. We need to have work done on the outside of our home. We’ve never been in the same.home for 25 years. Getting estimates for the work was top priority. Plus we spent Friday and Saturday draining hoses, covering outside faucets and plants! We have managed to keep our Merkot lime through the past cold spells and hoping to be lucky again this year. It is too big to bring inside now. We used one of the support cages from our Mexican Sunflowers. Bought a roll of bubble wra...

Week Before Christmas   poodlegirls     cooking ,  Daily Happenings ,  Life at home ,  Nature ,  Our Girls ,  Travels ,  Wildflowers     December 20, 2023   1 Minute Busy as ever, like everyone else, but we’re getting there. I do have some baking yet and 2 dinners to prepare for, but we are keeping them fairly simple. One Friday evening and the other Christmas day. With 2 days in between there’s a little down time. Right now we are sitting on the deck with coffee in hand watching the few butterflies working on our flowers. The butterfly bed is pretty well done for until Spring. The cages are put away that we used to support the Mexican Sunflowers. A few still have blooms but most have been pulled out. A few Mexican Milkweed are still blooming as are the Fire Bushes. Our first couple years in Taiwan it was hard for me to get used to warmer weather and no snow. After all we moved there from MN! But it helped having flowers...

Christmas Decorating part 2 and Tiki’s Quilt   poodlegirls     Daily Happenings ,  General Sewing ,  Life at home ,  Our Girls ,  Quilting ,  Uncategorized     December 11, 2023   1 Minute Took awhile but pretty much have the inside done for this year. Not quite as much as in past years tho. We also had our front door stained last week. The hot Texas sun was doing some damage. Looks a lot better now. Several coats of stain plus urethane to help protect it. Changed things up a little bit inside. The Santa collection is now in the family room and snowmen in the living room. Santas and Stockings. Santas are from shopping trips to Manilla. Stores in Salado Texas and Dad’s Years of ornaments plus soft dolls I or my Mom made. Snowmen from family and other gifts. The hanging quilt was designed and made by Judy Martin. An anniversary present from Galen some years ago. Mom’s Nativity set with more sheep that she added. Dad made t...

Christmas Decorating part 1   poodlegirls     Daily Happenings ,  Life at home ,  Quilting ,  Uncategorized     December 5, 2023   1 Minute Galen had put up our net lights before we left for the week in Rockport. Now the outside is finished. This is the front our home. Around the side by the driveway- the side entrance. And since our deck is more protected we have a few things there. When it’s nice we spend time out there. Might as well put a few decorations to make it more festive! The inside is just about finished. That will be in the next post. Also should have Tiki’s Last Dance quilt finished. That’s my name for the Scrap Dance Quadrille quilt. I was making it this past Spring. Made quite a few mistakes, lots of ripping as I wasn’t always focusing on the directions! So it’s a quilt in her name.
