Stash Report-week 48, 2014

Was able to do a little more sewing this past week.  Found a small top that needed backing and then cut the rest into 12" squares and made a few more fabric boxes. All in all, used 3 yards. I know my net will probably go down this coming week unless I can find at least 3 yards in my stash for a project I hope to start on before the first of next year.  Hard to believe that 2014 is almost finished and 2015 is just around the corner. My high school class is planning their 50th class reunion for next October. The one heading it up has been posting our senior pictures on our face book page. Boy did we look young! Now we just look more mature, will not say old. Here's my numbers for the year so far. Used This week:                     3 Used to date   :                      101 Donated to date:                    50 U...

Finally have finished all the bindings on the quilts that were ready for that stage! Starry Starry Night was a kit from Sister's Scraps in Amarillo, TX. It did age for a while before getting put together this year!   Square Dance was the Top of the Month program at Cotton Cupboard in Lakeway, TX. August of this year. The pattern is from Villa Rosa  Cactus Wreath was a strip club pattern from Honey Bee Quilt Store in Austin, TX I think 2008 so it has also be aging before getting made. Unfortunately there are many more aging and waiting for just the right time to be assembled!!!! But on the bright side I have finished more this year from collection of someday projects. I just realized I put a 12 instead of 11 for the month on my pictures! I think I was contemplating everything that had to be done between now and the end of the year! If I ever can figure out how to change it i will but for now it's gonna stay that way.  And for the October/November Top...

MARINE CORPS LEAGUE BIRTHDAY DINNER-GEORGETOWN, TX 11/15/2014

Image
Ever since Dad moved down here we have been going to the Birthday Dinner the Georgetown Marine Corps League holds in November. It is always an enjoyable evening with good speakers, good food and the usual Marine Camaraderie.  Since Dad has joined and we've been going to these dinners he has been the oldest in attendance. There is a tradition, the oldest and youngest participate in the cake cutting ceremony. The picture below is from Kathy Dunklee who posted this on face book on the Corps 239th birthday.November 11, 2014. Her Dad is 3rd row #1; mine is 4th row #3. Dad was 23 at the time when he joined the Corps. I met several of these men at their group reunions. I think Dad is the only one still alive of those in this picture. This next picture is when he finished Boot Camp Now we will fast forward 74 years. Yes, Dad is now 97!   Color guard-Marine ROTC from Hendrickson HS in Pflugerville ,TX Cake Cutting Ceremony  Oldest and youngest Marine  Th...

On the days I had planned to sew I decided it was time to get the pumpkins prepared for pies. I freeze 1 1/2 cups of pumpkin for each pie.  Love Mom's recipe using real pumpkin instead of the canned. Have enough for 15 pies and also a few containers with 1 cup for pumpkin bars. We were  getting low on bean soup in the freezer. Added a few more containers of bean soup and still need to make one more pot.                                                 My sewing consisted of binding 2 quilts                                                                 PUZZLES PIECES CO...

GETTING READY FOR WINTER!

Image
We do get some cold weather in central Texas. Several years ago we bought a green house that we can put up for temporary protection of some of our less hardy plants.  It sure beats moving them on and off the porch and covering them with sheets that usually blow off anyway in the middle of the night!                                           Galen gets the frame together first, adds the shelves. After it's together we move it to it's winter location. It is close to the fence for protection from the wind. It gets some morning sun and also afternoon sun. It isn't real big but does serve it's purpose.  I can at least keep some of my more fragile plants, herbs etc over the winter.  Now we are ready and I may start putting a few plants in this week!

Stash Report-week 45, 2014

I did sew a little this past week but no completed tops, just blocks. I can't count those.  And I did stop and pick up my next 3 FQS. for Trifecta Block 4. If all goes well this coming week I will be able to add to the used column. Used This week:                     0 Used to date   :                      91 Donated to date:                    50 Used and donated to date:  141 Added this week:                     .75 Added to date:                       46.75 Net:                                        94.25 Back to Judy at Patchworktimes!

I have a little something to show this week. I managed to finish binding a quilt! This will be put away until I need a quilt for someone. And I was able to sew the next 6 blocks for my October BOM Trifecta #3.  Each month we pick 3 fat quarters and then make 6 blocks. So far I have been able to stay with my favorite fabrics to use-batiks! The following -18 finished blocks-6 for each month This is the pattern for the October Top of the Month at the  Cotton Cupboard. And these are my 12 fat quarters  This top is due the 3rd Thursday of November. The fabric is cut-need to lay out the pieces and start sewing. Maybe I'll be able to show a completed top next week! Here is central Texas we are hoping the weather people are right on! Should get a soaking rain early in the week.  Voted early and DH is going to take my Dad to his oncologist appointment on Tuesday. Just maybe I will get to sew most of the day! Back to Patchworktimes!
