REMODEL WEEK 5, FRIDAY

Yesterday and today Peter and his nephew have been here working on the tile. They had a lot of it cut on Wednesday and started laying it on Thursday. It is slow going as you still need to measure, measure again and then cut. Just like in quilting, measure twice, cut once. Wish I always remembered to do that in quilting, but at least when I miss cut it is just a piece of fabric and not a piece of travertine tile!
Thursday they had one wall of the tile up in the bigger bathroom

and around the vanity. The reason you see the blue bucket at the drain-our AC drains into that line.
Right now until the plumbers get it all replumbed next week there is just a very little tiny leak. Of course we could turn off the AC but I think not.

They were back today and there is more progress.
The walls around the tub in the bigger bathroom are now ready to be grouted. Those bigger spaces are inset caddies-one for those taking a shower and one for those taking a bath. Need to think of all options!

This is the area around where the commode will be.

The floors are done in a Versailles pattern. 4 different size blocks put together like a puzzle. We had this also in the kitchen, family room and the master bath. It is a little tricky getting it laid out at first so Peter has a layout in the bedroom that he can look at if need be. Of course it is also a little tricky as these are narrow floors.

It's a little more interest than straight layouts with the same size blocks.

Peter will be back tomorrow for a while. He has the floor in the smaller bathroom started and needs to do some of the walls.  A lot of it needs to be grouted by Wednesday when the plumbers are here. They don't want to change their date as everyone is very busy in this area with either new or remodels. So Peter needs to have enough done and grouted so they can install the fixtures and toilets on Wednesday. The electricians will be here on Thursday.

We did pick out the metal railings for our staircase and banisters yesterday and then went with a different plan today. Everyone is very busy and prices keep going up. We are going with option 2 which we also really liked. It ups the cost a little but not like our first choice! And we wanted something different than the standard stock item, but not outrageous!!!

We have our mirror for the small bathroom ordered from DIVA  located in Georgetown. They are also doing our shutters and have for all the remodels. They are great to work with.
We are progressing. The end of next week they should be starting the flooring and on the 18th the deck project begins!
