Stash Report-week 35, 2014

This past week seemed to be one of those where very little went as planned! Spent the beginning of the week getting ready for the guys to get home on Tuesday. They did get back safe and sound and then it was back to the "real" world for me, but it was a nice vacation while it lasted!
Nothing completed this week so nothing to count. But also nothing added! Next year I just may keep track of what gets cut for a certain quilt during the week!

Design Wall Monday-August 25,2014

I started the Top of the Month program again at Cotton Cupboard in Lakeway, TX. I have finished all the ones from the last go round. This is the pattern for August--Square Dance by Villa Rosa. A simple and fun pattern using 12 FQS.

close up of some of the fabrics. Will be a cute quilt  for a child                                     when quilted and bound!

I also joined her Block of the Month Program.  The patterns will be available the first of each month and we pick our own fabrics. Since I got a late start-joined last week-I got them done right away. Here are my first 6 blocks!
Trifecta-block 1

And I started the kit I had cut the fabrics for last week. It's from Jim Shore's Noah
Ark fabric.  It's one I have had the fabrics for a long time. Pattern says 2008. Need I say more about my stash!
The center block is made.

My guys-Galen and my Dad have been away for the past week. They will be getting back tomorrow. They went to Dad's Marine Corps Reunion in Charleston, SC. This is the 4TH division who fought in the Pacific during WWII. I think Dad was the oldest one in attendance at 96. But then they called him an old man when he enlisted at the age of 23. I have enjoyed the week of sewing in between things I needed to do away from home! You know, eat when you want etc.  Did have to keep feeding the girls tho-they were not shy about reminding me it was meal time or let's go out and play a little! They are a lot of company. I  also able to finish Starry Starry Night early in the week.

I guess it is time to get back to reality-grocery shopping for both us and Dad. Get his salads made once again. Thank heavens for Judy and her salad in a jar post a while back. Dad enjoys salads but doesn't make them often enough on his own. Ingredients go to waste. So I make several for him with the basics and then he sometimes adds other goodies. His laundry is done, his house cleaners will be there just before he gets back. Now if the cleaning fairies would stop by here!

Stash Report-Week 34, 2014

I finished the Starry Starry Night flimsy (5 yds)  It turned out better than I thought it might. But I did keep visualizing it made in batiks.  Oh well, maybe someday after I work through more kits and strip clubs long over due to be put together!
I decided to once again start Cotton Cupboards Top of the Month program. It was a lot of fun last year and a great way to get donation quilts made. For that program and then her new BOM program I had to get some fabric!  Once again we get to pick our own; I added 3.75 yards.  However my top of the month is made as are my first 6 blocks. Won't count those 3 FQS as used. So all in all, still used more than added!

This week:                           8
Used to date   :                  86.25
Donated to date:                 50
Used and donated to date: 136.25

I did cut out another kit this week. Maybe I'll break 100 next stash report!

Design Wall Monday-August 18, 2014

I mailed 100 cart wheel blocks this past week to me friend who is collecting them and then making quilts for the Quilted with Love group.
                             50 of block A and 50 of block B
Laid a few out to get an idea.
This is really a quick block and great idea for using scraps. Easy quilt for kids quilt!
I am making more of those using them as leaders and enders on my next project!

While pulling out fabric to send to a friend I came across a kit that I bought a long time ago. Our first trip to Palo Duro Canyon and Amarillo had to be 2003 or 2004. Of course we stopped at a quilt shop in Amarillo-Sister's Scraps. I bought the Starry, Starry Night quilt kit.
Definitely not the fabrics I would pick now! But as you see it is underway!
Just me and the girls at home for a few days so maybe I can get lots accomplished in between things that need to be done! Eventually it should look something like this!

Stash Report-week 33, 2014

Remember me telling about the block lotto blocks I was going to make this past week? Made 100 of them and they are in the mail.  It's a simple block, no thinking required except to remember if making the A placement of the B placement. Figured out my yardage for those, that was 6.25 out of my stash. Then, as I was going through my bright containers I found quite a few pieces of at least one yard or more. 20 yards mailed to my friend who makes a lot of donation quilts for kids!   All in all a very productive week!
Too bad they all can't be like that!

This week:                           6.25
Used to date   :                  78.25
Donated to date:                 50

Design Wall-Monday August 11, 2014

No completed blocks to show but I can show the parts! One of the online groups I participate in is Quilted with Love. It's a yahoo group where we make quilts for Quilts for Kids and other groups. Once in a while we do a block lotto where we send in blocks and one of our fearless leaders gets them put together into quilts. This lotto we are making cartwheel blocks following a Moda bakeshop post. This is a great way to use the left over pieces of bright prints. We are using brights and wow. Very scrappy.
CARTWHEEL BLOCKS

I have enough cut for about 100 blocks.
Pairs waiting to be sewn together
Pairs waiting to be pressed open
Groups of 4 waiting to be sewn into blocks.

Hoping to have a sewing marathon and get these put together.
Since we are supposed to have triple digits most of the week it will be a good time to stay in side and sew!

Stash Report-week 32, 2014

Nothing finished so nothing to report! Did cut up about 5 yards last week for blocks for the block lotto on the online Quilted for Kids yahoo group. But as I said, nothing actually sewn together yet!
It was a busy week with Dad appointments and getting things done around the house and yard. We are now in a true Texas summer-triple digits so it takes me longer to accomplish something outside. Lots of breaks and then not in the mood to actually do something once inside other than vegg! The shutter people were here on Friday to replace 2 of the frames they were not happy with when the shutters were installed. They could not figure out why the company made 2 of the arches with seams in the middle and the 3rd one without. Now none of them have the middle seam. Looks so much better. I certainly made our life easier when the installers didn't think it was right. They complained, we didn't have too!

We topped the week off with a drive to Brady to meet our good friends from Brownwood at Boondocks.. Can anyone say a 3 hour lunch, close to that anyway. Stopped at the ranch on our way home, then headed home.  It's nice to have the girls groomer close by. They stopped, let the girls out and played with them for a little while. The girls love Lisa and Perry.

This week:                            0
Used to date   :                  72
Donated to date:                 30
Used and donated to date: 102

Sunday dinner is now cooking-pork and sauerkraut in the crockpot and a triple berry pie in the oven. That should make Dad and my husband happy.

Design Wall Monday-August 4, 2014

Nothing new to show this week. I did finish the binding the last of my quilts.
From a Top of the Month program at Cotton Cupboard. Love the Poppy fabric. Georgetown, TX has a Poppy Festival every Spring. This reminds me of that.

These two are from another Top of the Month. We could make one bigger quilt or 2 smaller ones.I opted for 2 smaller quilts for this pattern.
So until my next ones come back from the quilter I have no more quilts left to bind! Good feeling but no hand work for TV watching!

I didn't get much else accomplished this past week. A little cleaning up, tossing out, cutting scraps into usable sizes.

New flooring in the family room has been put on hold. The shipment of tile has been back ordered. While I am looking forward to getting the floor done, it means I don't have to deal with the mess for another few weeks. We have a busy week otherwise with appointments for everyone so I am not sure what be accomplished

Stash Report-week 31, 2014

My numbers didn't change this week.Did finish binding my quilts but those numbers had been added when I cut the bindings for them. It was a busy week so not much accomplished as far as sewing, or at least nothing finished! Maybe this week will be different. Flooring in the family room put on hold-tile is back-ordered.
We didn't get the rain this week that we had hoped for, but the front did bring in some cooler temperatures and lower humidity,it was nice being outside. High 80's to low 90's for this part of Texas the end of July is wonderful!
