STASH REPORT-WEEK 52, 2014

I haven't reported for a few weeks-life does get in the way sometimes, especially during the holidays! I did add my 3 FQS for the next Trifecta Block but that is all. I made my goal of using more than I added and that was my main goal. The fact that I did hit the triple figures between using and donating was a real plus. If I can keep that up then maybe by my third life I will have used the stash!!!!!

DESIGN WALL MONDAY-DECEMBER 15, 2014

I actually managed to get my next blocks sewn for the Trifecta BOM I am working on. Yea, I have something to show!
All 6 blocks

This is a close up of the really dark one. But once it is worked in with the others it's not bad!

All the blocks so far!

I keep my Christmas Cactus on the porch all year.(except if we get below freezing some nights)
We had some very close friends over for dinner this past week so I brought 3 of the prettiest ones in and put them on the island in the kitchen. A little more decoration added for the holidays!

They are so easy to start from a slip. The smaller red one to the left is one that we started last year.

Lots to do today so I will take you back to Patchworktimes

Design Wall Monday-12/8/14

My design wall is empty. Busy week and I didn't step foot in my sewing area.  I did manage to cut the last FQ for Trifecta #4 block. Remember I picked that one up in November.  Maybe this week I can get it finished and pick up December's block!  It's going to be another busy one tho, so I am not counting too much on getting it completed!

It wasn't all work this past week. We did get to spend some time with friends on Saturday. We met them for lunch and had a great time catching up on family and the events of the past few months. On our way home we discovered the Eagle Nest was no longer where we could see it-close to the road. It had been a great attraction for locals and visitors to go see the Llano River Eagles outside of Llano, Texas. We had been going regularly since 2000 or 2001 to see them, watch the young eaglets grow up and learn to fly. It was said to be unusual as ours was a  nesting pair, they didn't just come for the winter.

Galen took this picture last February. That day was fun as a Red Tail Hawk was eyeing the nest with the 2 chicks and the parents weren't pleased. A chase followed for several minutes until the hawk gave up. If you enjoy birds and want to read a little about ours-below is the link. If you read the story you will see that eaglets even can give their parents problems!

Stash Report-Week 49, 2014

Nothing to report this week as far as my stash numbers.  But the tree is up and I have most of the inside decorations up and the outside front is also finished.  I should move my Christmas Cacti inside as they are really starting to bloom.  Decorating inside as been a challenge this year. Since we remodeled earlier in the year I have had to rethink where to put things.  I also think that when the decorations go away again, there will be some major sorting and not all will be saved!

Used This week:                     0
Used to date   :                      101
Donated to date:                    50

Added to date:                      46.75
Net:                                     104.25

I may rethink how I figure this for 2015, whether I keep using a completed flimsy as my criteria or if I use blocks made as the criteria.  Either way I will keep on keeping track as it is good incentive to use what's here and not always just buy. Now I do have to think twice and sometimes three times if I really need it.

Design Wall Monday - December 1, 2014

Hard to believe we are in the last month of 2014.  I know I say this every year, but what happened to this year!  And every year, my Dad says, wait until you are my age and see how fast time goes then!!!! When we're young we keep wishing we would get older and now the years go by way to fast sometimes. Enough philosophizing!

Since my friends and I are having our Christmas luncheon today I can show pictures of the fabric box gifts. These are from this blog   Seaside Stitches    I made mine using 12 inch squares.

Before inside corners are tacked down. Could also be  used to hold very small items.

                                      Waiting for buttons!

Filled with little goodies from the quilt store.

I am working on some other gifts now. But no pictures yet!

Stash Report-week 48, 2014

Was able to do a little more sewing this past week.  Found a small top that needed backing and then cut the rest into 12" squares and made a few more fabric boxes. All in all, used 3 yards. I know my net will probably go down this coming week unless I can find at least 3 yards in my stash for a project I hope to start on before the first of next year.  Hard to believe that 2014 is almost finished and 2015 is just around the corner. My high school class is planning their 50th class reunion for next October. The one heading it up has been posting our senior pictures on our face book page. Boy did we look young! Now we just look more mature, will not say old.
Here's my numbers for the year so far.

DESIGN WALL NOVEMBER 24, 2014

Finally have finished all the bindings on the quilts that were ready for that stage!

Starry Starry Night was a kit from Sister's Scraps in Amarillo, TX. It did age for a while before getting put together this year!
Square Dance was the Top of the Month program at Cotton Cupboard in Lakeway, TX. August of this year. The pattern is from Villa Rosa
Cactus Wreath was a strip club pattern from Honey Bee Quilt Store in Austin, TX I think 2008 so it has also be aging before getting made. Unfortunately there are many more aging and waiting for just the right time to be assembled!!!! But on the bright side I have finished more this year from collection of someday projects.
I just realized I put a 12 instead of 11 for the month on my pictures! I think I was contemplating everything that had to be done between now and the end of the year! If I ever can figure out how to change it i will but for now it's gonna stay that way.

And for the October/November Top of the Month. I did get the top together in the allotted amount of time. Have not been there to get the one for Nov./ Dec. May or may not keep up with the program. It would be a shame as the cost goes down every month until the last one is free but there is a time problem and a lot of other things that need doing. We shall see when I go to pick up the next block the Trifecta BOM.
It was too windy today to get a good picture of it hanging. So here is the one I took the other day to send out to Cotton Cupboard!
I have also been working on a few Christmas presents but just in case the wrong person reads this I will show those later!

On a good note we had a little over 3 inches of much needed rain in two days. And now we are back to more normal November temperatures. 60's and 70's and sunny!

MARINE CORPS LEAGUE BIRTHDAY DINNER-GEORGETOWN, TX 11/15/2014

Ever since Dad moved down here we have been going to the Birthday Dinner the Georgetown Marine Corps League holds in November. It is always an enjoyable evening with good speakers, good food and the usual Marine Camaraderie.  Since Dad has joined and we've been going to these dinners he has been the oldest in attendance. There is a tradition, the oldest and youngest participate in the cake cutting ceremony. The picture below is from Kathy Dunklee who posted this on face book on the Corps 239th birthday.November 11, 2014. Her Dad is 3rd row #1; mine is 4th row #3. Dad was 23 at the time when he joined the Corps. I met several of these men at their group reunions. I think Dad is the only one still alive of those in this picture.
This next picture is when he finished Boot Camp
Now we will fast forward 74 years. Yes, Dad is now 97!

DESIGN WALL MONDAY-NOVEMBER 10, 2014

On the days I had planned to sew I decided it was time to get the pumpkins prepared for pies. I freeze 1 1/2 cups of pumpkin for each pie.  Love Mom's recipe using real pumpkin instead of the canned. Have enough for 15 pies and also a few containers with 1 cup for pumpkin bars. We were  getting low on bean soup in the freezer. Added a few more containers of bean soup and still need to make one more pot.

My sewing consisted of binding 2 quilts
                                                                PUZZLES PIECES

Feels good to have 2 more totally done!

GETTING READY FOR WINTER!

We do get some cold weather in central Texas. Several years ago we bought a green house that we can put up for temporary protection of some of our less hardy plants.  It sure beats moving them on and off the porch and covering them with sheets that usually blow off anyway in the middle of the night!
Galen gets the frame together first, adds the shelves.

After it's together we move it to it's winter location. It is close to the fence for protection from the wind. It gets some morning sun and also afternoon sun.
It isn't real big but does serve it's purpose.  I can at least keep some of my more fragile plants, herbs etc over the winter.  Now we are ready and I may start putting a few plants in this week!

Stash Report-week 45, 2014

I did sew a little this past week but no completed tops, just blocks. I can't count those.  And I did stop and pick up my next 3 FQS. for Trifecta Block 4. If all goes well this coming week I will be able to add to the used column.

Design Wall-November 3, 2014

I have a little something to show this week. I managed to finish binding a quilt! This will be put away until I need a quilt for someone.

And I was able to sew the next 6 blocks for my October BOM
Trifecta #3.  Each month we pick 3 fat quarters and then make 6 blocks. So far I have been able to stay with my favorite fabrics to use-batiks!
The following -18 finished blocks-6 for each month
This is the pattern for the October Top of the Month at the
Cotton Cupboard.

And these are my 12 fat quarters
This top is due the 3rd Thursday of November. The fabric is cut-need to lay out the pieces and start sewing. Maybe I'll be able to show a completed top next week!

Here is central Texas we are hoping the weather people are right on! Should get a soaking rain early in the week.  Voted early and DH is going to take my Dad to his oncologist appointment on Tuesday. Just maybe I will get to sew most of the day!

Design Wall-October 27, 2014

Not much sewn this past week. I did manage to remake my Trifecta Block #2.
Never noticed that I had switched the bottom row on each of the 2 blocks on the left!
These do look a lot better!

I also managed to get the fabric cut for Trifecta #3 but not sewn. Hoping to get these sewn together this week and maybe finish binding at least one quilt. I usually work on hand sewing in the evenings but lately have been going to bed earlier than usual. Probably catching up from the stress of the past month.  That's okay, the quilts are by my chair in the family room for when ever!!!!!

And here I am giving Dad his Birthday Cake last Sunday afternoon!

Design Wall Monday-October 20, 2014

Not on the wall but something I can show!  I managed to get the top of the month finished on time,I have a mistake in #2 BOM (bottom left block) of Trifecta so I will be doing a little frogging and then putting it back together again
                                                               HIDE AND SEEK
                                                   BLOCKS FOR #2 TRIFECTA
                                                             BLOCKS #1 & #2
It felt good to be able to get some sewing in this past week. I have 2 quilts not that I can work on sewing the binding in the evenings. Been awhile since I have had any hand sewing.

the rest is about other doing this past weekend so if you want to skip Back to Patchworktimes!

It was a busy weekend. We stopped at the Pumpkin Patch with the girls on Saturday.  Needed some small pumpkins to make pie filling for the freezer.
On Sunday we had a surprise Birthday party for my Dad. There were about 20 of us and we did pull it off as a surprise.  Quite a few of his friends from the Y came as well as some from church and some of our friends who he has gotten to know since moving down here 7 years ago.

Made good use of the new island. It made it so much easier than our old set up for serving food. I did get some things made but this was one time I was quite happy to have some things made at the deli in the grocery store.  This was a last minute deal since we weren't sure how Dad's health would be.
Dad is the one on the left, his friend is the one with the can of coke.
One very tired puppy. The girls love to have company but they miss being on the couch!

Stash Report-week 42

I have not posted in a while. My Dad went in the hospital for an over night and went home 18 days later. So you know where we have been. At his age, 97 this past Friday (17th) we weren't sure what was going to happen. But he is now back in his apartment, still living by himself and having a little home health care. And he plans to make it to 100!

I did manage to get my Top of the Month done that was due this past Thursday and also some blocks. But added fabric for the next Top of the Month and this month's BOM pattern. My numbers went in the wrong direction!  Am hoping though with things looking up for Dad I can get some more sewing time in and at least break 100 for the year!

Design Wall-September 15, 2014

Surprisingly enough I did get some sewing in last week! Remember this picture from last week?
Once I got it figured out it was a fun one to put together. So in between cleaning up the dust from Saturday's tearing up of the family room floor, and nap time I got the 12 rows together.
Tiki is photo bombing the picture.

The pattern is Puzzle Pieces from the new book Pick Up A 6-Pack from Timeless Treasurers.

This is the week we get the new floor in our family room. They hope to have the last coat of sealer done on
Friday. If so we can get moved back in over next weekend. Then we get a breather until 2015 when we get the rest of the downstairs done. We are already talking to them about that job.

Design Wall Monday-September 8, 2014

Very little was accomplished last week, it was one of those weeks! So my wall has the same thing on it-some of the Noah's ark blocks.

And since we ended up not starting the family room floor on Saturday as planned I had use of my kitchen counter. I of course cut out another quilt from these batiks!

The pattern is Puzzle Pieces from the new book Pick Up A 6-Pack from Timeless Treasurers. The pattern is by my friend Osie.

I spent part of yesterday trying to get all the threads off my design wall. Had some success, but I do believe after 10-12 years I can put  a new covering on it!

Back to Patchworktimes for some eye candy!

Stash Report-week 36, 2014

Not much sewing this week. Did get the binding for another quilt cut and ready to put on so I will count that half yard as being used! I also picked up my fabric and pattern for the September BOM - 3 FQS.  I ended up adding a little more than I used but not much more!! All is all not too bad.

We thought the guys were going to start on the family room floor on Saturday, but the guy who is really good laying travertine in a pattern is about 3 days away from finishing up a job. Since he is the one who laid our kitchen floor we are going to wait. Paul, our contractor also wants us to wait for this guy. We agreed. The pattern is 6 different pieces, only 2 are the same size. So now we are on the calendar for next Saturday. Maybe I will get a little more sewing in this week.

Design Wall Monday-Sept. 1, 2014

My wall is the same as last week.
Wish I could say other wise! Had plans on working on some other blocks today but Dad had different ideas. Ended up spending close to 4 hours in ER.  All is okay for now, on antibiotics for a bladder infection.  He, of course, was the hit of the ER.  Didn't feel much like doing anything when we got home and besides had dinner to finish up for the 3 of us.  Good thing I had started the chicken pot pie last night. Broth was cooked and I did bone the chicken this morning before he called.
The Monarch Butterflies are starting their migration south. Took this from the family room window on Saturday.

Next Friday is our 44th wedding anniversary and we will be spending it tearing up the family room. We are having new flooring put in-that starts on Saturday the 6th.  We will be moving furniture on the 5th! Guess we couldn't stand not having dust etc that comes with remodel.  But once the floor is done, no more until next year!
