The Kitchen and Family Room are finished!

Today was the install day for our window treatments-shutters! And yes, the family room windows are really unique for us. Both having grown up in either a farm house like Galen or homes built in the traditional suburbia manner of the 50's in PA. Guess I am saying no fancy arched windows! And nothing like this either in our other homes are we moved around with Galen's job. Before we did this there were vertical blinds on the windows when we bought the house in Jan. of '99. This is the first really extensive remodel we have done-never lived in one place this long! So today was the final leg in this remodel. Shutters on these very interesting windows!
                                                     They arrived in pieces.
The fun began of putting the pieces of the puzzle together. This is the frame for the window in our eating area
The frames laid out at their respective windows
Micheal then tacked the frames in place

Bobby made sure the shutters would fit properly.

Definitely a two person job getting the big ones lined up so they would drop into place
Then Micheal went through and secured all the frames and shutters
This is the one at our front entry

                                                       outside

Family Room put back together again!
                                    Outside looking in!

Sometime when I get more house pictures off the other computer I will do a before and after!
And yes, there will be more shutters on our future, but not a for a little while.

Design Wall-Monday May 19, 2014

I have been working on a new one from Bonnie Hunter's latest Book-More Adventures with Leaders and Enders. Which one-of course Texas Tumbleweeds! Have lots of 2.5 inch scraps and that is the size she uses in this pattern. Had some string blocks I needed to get made for a swap and this was making a good leader ender project.
The brown and neutral 2.5 sqs. are the beginnings of the 4 patch                                                       blocks
These are unit 1 in the Spinning Star block.

If all goes well this week there may be more to show next time! Wish me luck!!!!!

Stash Report-week 20, 2014

A little sewing this past week, but nothing finished so nothing to report there. I did however start weeding out-a good 30 yards of fabric on it's way to our local Linus group. They will get it used quicker than I will. I plan on going through more this coming week. It's been about 10 years since I have done this-the time is now! Taking 30 yds out didn't make a dent!!!!!

Design Wall Monday-May 12, 2014

This is Wistful that I wrote about in March!  Got the fabric cut but that was about it for close to a month. Good thing this was my free Top of the Month from Cotton Cupboard!  Or maybe it would have been finished if I had the deadline!!!! Who knows? But now almost 2 months later the top is complete.
Wistful - pattern by Villa Rosa
Haven't decided if I will start back up on their top of the month program or take a little more time off from it. It is fun and a great way to get tops made for various groups.

As you see we still don't have the shutters for the windows. Should though by the end of the month. It has been great having nothing on them since our trees have grown quite a bit, but we still do get the hot Texas sun and that will only get worse as we head into summer. So they are needed!

It's back to reality now. DH and my Dad fly back from PA today. Although Galen may wish he had stayed in PA longer-the honey do list is growing! I did warn him tho! We have spent so much time on getting things accomplished inside that the outside needs attention now. And the girls, Tilly and Tiki miss their playmate. They will play for me, but play harder for him.We will all be happy when he is home again.

Stash Report-Week 19, 2014

I have been quiet since week 12; no sewing until recently. I have been slowly putting things where I think they should go in the new kitchen and then rearranging when I decide otherwise. Trial and error process going on here. But have made lots of progress. And we've been having friends over to check it out-thumbs up from everyone so far. We should be getting the shutters later this month. Then we will really feel like it's finished.

Have managed to get a little sewing in lately and a few tops off to the quilters and several tops with backing and binding fabrics  to Linus for them to quilt. Now I want to get back to getting some more UFO's finished. Too many new projects I want to work on.
