Design Wall Monday

I hope everyone enjoying the Memorial Day holiday remembers why we celebrate this day..

Last week ended up being busier than planned. But I was able to work more on my blocks. This may end up being a table square or a table runner. Played a little bit the blocks.

Not sewn together just playing with layout.

I have more HSTs  made.

And some others ready to be made into blocks.

Didn’t get to meet up with Osie last week.  Hopefully we can get together later this week.

And needo get busy on more doggie bandanas. Plan to spend lots of time bonding with my machine!!

Tuesday Ramblings

I spent a good part of last week and weekend working on Dog Bandanas for Lisa and her shop in Ventura, California. It’s La Mia Bella West. They were mailed off yesterday. The top 3 photos are size medium. The bottom 3 are small. I have fun using decorative stitches on my machine when sewing the fold over in place. Speaking of machines I got my other one back. The laser light unit has been replaced. I haven’t tried it yet. Hoping that has solved the problem.

This past Saturday our landscapers mulched our big beds. We used to get the bags and do it ourselves but those days are past! Sometime I will have to post pictures of the yard when we bought our home 26 years ago and now. We have a lot less grass. Our trees were small then and lots of sun. Now we have nice size trees and more shade. Getting mulch in the beds helps retain moisture too. That’s vey important. The Giant Coneflower is starting to bloom. About 10 days later than last year!

The Bee Balm has also started to bloom. It is spreading nicely.

Galen and our friend Nancy went to Gus Engling Wildlife Management area a week ago Saturday. They sent me this picture on their way back to Hutto. It does rain in Texas, just not at our home!

I have started another quilt. Probably about 20 years ago I was in a batik Nickle club- 5 inch squares. Back then when they were cutting the edges they used bigger pinking shear dyes to cut. very easy to lose a little of the square.

I was watching a u tube video from Revelations Quilts the other day-The Easiest Quilt Ever. She starts out with left over 5 inch squares. Turns them into half square triangles. She used lots of cotton prints for hers. I am going to see how it turns out using a lot of my 20 plus year old batik squares. Below is my first stack of half squares triangles. On to the next step!

Galen is taking off tomorrow for 4 days. They are heading to the Paducah, Texas area. That is north and west of us. You guessed it, I plan on sewing while he’s away! Maybe I’ll have a few blocks together next time.

                         More Dog Bandanas

I needed to start making more bandanas for my friends grooming shop in California. Made some generic medium and small size the past couple of days.
These are the medium size.  This is the size our standard poodle, Lady wears.
These are a few small ones.
I will try and get more made over the weekend and get them in the mail on Monday.  Then I will start more Patriotic ones for summer plus some summer themed ones.  These are fun to make and by using the templates from Winner Designs I can cut multiples at a time.
https://winnerdesigns.com/ She has lots of templates with no slip backings.

Our summer in central Texas has started a little early this year and it has been dry. On the bright side we have had a few ripe tomatoes, that's a plus.  We have several plants, yellow pear tomatoes, that reseeded from last year and they are getting little tomatoes!  I really cut back on vegetable plants this year.  Finding it harder to work outside when it's on the warm side.  As for flower plants we have to keep spraying with Squirrel Away.  The little devils love digging up plants and also eating them!  The rabbits have been helping
themselves as well! We do enjoy the rabbits.  They are pretty tame.  The birds are plentiful certain times of the day.  They really enjoy our birdbath with the fountain.

Mother’s Day 2025

First off Happy Mother’s Day.  Being a dog Mom Lady wished me a happy day. Not sure what made me think of this. Many years ago- mid to late 50’s into early 60’s we almost always spent Mother’s Day by going shad fishing! We would get up early in the morning,  Mom would pack a lunch, load up Dad’s aluminum boat on to the car top carriers and we would drive to Port Deposit, MD.  Spend the day on the water fishing on the Susquehana River.  Sometimes we caught shad, sometimes not. Mom was always very careful when she fileted them- very boney.  I had not thought about that in a very long time.

We were lucky and had rain earlier this week. Up to 6.66 inches for the year.   Get to keep the irrigation system off for another week.

Galen was out last Sunday with a friend.   They went to an are near San Antonio.  He did get some nice pictures.

Yesterday they went to Gus Engling Wildlife Management area.  That is NE of us.  He’s still working on editing pictures

I did manage some sewing these past 2 weeks.  Put my Alice In Wonderland top together.  It is ready to go to Osie who quilts for me. I have a piece of Cuddle fabric as backing.

BQ5 made with Alice In Wonderland theme fabric

I also finished my Tossed Animal quilt top.  Like it using cornerstones in the sashing.

I don’t think I shared a picture of my last set of 12 lig cabin block.

Also out of blue batiks

Mike ordered a new laser light unit for my one machine.  Hoping that will fix the problem.  It’s not that it’s necessary but it is a nice feature.

Hoping to get more done in my sewing area- organize and sew.  Have blocks made that are waiting for their turn on my design wall!
